Super sensitive Logan finds his forever home

Greyhounds Logan and Fudge

Not many of you will know Logan (above left), as he is our spook greyhound - they don’t come around that often, however they require a quite different level of care and support.

Logan came into us in April 2022. We quickly realised that he was nervous, however the extent really showed when Abby and Katie took him for a walk and he nearly pulled them over trying to escape from the people he saw.

Logan has never been on walks with the volunteer walkers, he likes his strolls up the woods at the back of the kennels where he knows he won’t see anyone.

We aren’t even sure Logan fits into the “spook” category, as a spook dog is typically known for being very nervous, of people and surroundings but with time will bond to a human. Logan fits this but also has additional needs where he throws himself at doors, gates and so on in a desperate attempt to get inside if he feels scared outside. He also has over-sensitive hearing.

Over the past three years we have tried a behaviourist, calming medication, two fosters as an only dog and unfortunately all of this and he still wasn’t comfortable.

He was happy in kennels, as he knew all the staff, where his bedroom was and he felt it was his alone, which it was, but we always dreamed of finding him his home.

That’s where Diane came along, a wonderful lady we know from previous successful adoptions. Diane was looking for another greyhound to add to the pack as she sadly lost one of hers last year.

Diane’s house is full of a fabulous mix of Collies and Greyhounds, and she had already taken on a nervous boy from us the previous year (Fudge). He thrived there and so we thought maybe Logan could do with some company to show that life isn’t so scary!

Back in January the team decided to give this a go and so Katie, Abby and Sarah all went to drop him off and do the introductions with the dogs and it was a very promising start. Logan settled in well, in the home, with the other dogs and slowly increased in confidence with Diane's incredible patience and support.

Now of course this hasn’t been straightforward and yes he is still nervous of things and the outside world, however he is coming out of himself every day and with the help of the other dogs he is happy.

So we are pleased to say Logan has now been adopted and been welcomed into the pack.

We are all so happy, and a special thank you to Diane for everything she does. She really is incredible with the dogs.
